35 Establishments Fined for Non-commitment to Precautionary Measures

Tuesday 14 April 2020

As part of its campaign "Shop Safely", RAKDED has extensively visited the commercial establishments. The recently announced campaign came after several precautionary circulars issued by RAKDED in light of the spread of Coronavirus (Covid 19). Therefore, “Shop safely” is concerned with monitoring all establishments and their compliance with RAKDED instructions by taking precautionary and preventive measures to preserve the safety of both workers and consumers. The campaign was implemented by a team representing the Commercial Control and Protection Department and the Institutional Communication Office of RAKDED, in cooperation with the Community Police Department. As a first phase, 35 establishments, including 27 sale outlets and 8 exchange houses, were covered by the campaign. Consequently, 22 warnings were given to facilities that failed to abide by using thermometers at their headquarters, 9 establishments were fined for receiving consumers more than 30% of their capacity, other seven for not sterilizing trolleys and shopping baskets, and one establishment for not placing hand sanitizers at the entrance. Moreover, one facility was fined because of shoppers overcrowding, and another for failure of employees to adhere to the precautionary and preventive measures such as wearing masks and gloves. In addition, three other facilities were fined because they lack supervisory teams monitoring the commitment to precautionary measures. “The team directed all establishments to adhere to the circulars that would preserve everybody’s safety. Non-compliant establishments were given a period of 48 hours only to meet all requirements. It is worth noting that "Shop Safely" campaign will continue to include all establishments in the Emirate and ensure their adherence to the recommendations and directions.” Said Faisal Alyoon - Director of the Commercial Control and Protection Department. Alyoon also called on all members of society to cooperate with the department by reporting any violation or complaints through the approved communication channels.
