As part of RAKDED endeavor to implement the Federal Law No. 15 of 2009 on the import and sale of tobacco and its products in the UAE after meeting the standard conditions such as banning the sale of tobacco products for those under 18 year-old, RAKDED has organized regular control rounds on the Emirate's markets to ensure that commercial establishments comply with this law. The Department of Commercial Control and Protection has received a complaint about the existence of grocery stores in the Emirate selling "cigarettes" to those under 18 year-old. The Department's Inspectors verified this complaint and counted the violating shops, and accordingly, 4 violating grocery stores have been closed to date to prevent serious harm to the health and safety of children and adolescents.
Faisal Alyoon, Director of Commercial Control and Protection Department, warned all commercial establishments not to violate the law, and that RAKDED will keep carrying out intensive control campaigns during the coming period.
